Save the date

Bim Bim Day takes place annually, on the second Saturday of June. This date was chosen because it falls around the same time as many other summer festivals, adding to the celebratory atmosphere of the season.

The History and Origin

Bim Bim Day originates from the ancient tales of the Bimmelon people, who sought to live in harmony with nature.

According to legend, the Bimmelons discovered a mysterious stone that radiated a warm, comforting light. They named this stone "Bim Bim" and believed it to be a forebearer of unity, joy, and prosperity.

To honor the Bim Bim stone and its supposed powers, they dedicated a day to celebration - and in doing so, they discovered that, in order to live in harmony with nature, they must first learn to live in harmony with themselves.

This day of celebration eventually became known as Bim Bim Day - a day of togetherness that people of all ethnicities, creeds, religions and proclivities can enjoy, side-by-side.

Celebratory Customs

Bim Bim Stone Ceremony

The day begins with the ceremonial unveiling of a replica Bim Bim stone in each town square or neighborhood - typically a real stone that has been chiseled into the traditional shape of the original Bim Bim. Community leaders lead a brief ceremony, sharing stories about the Bim Bim stone and its significance.

Unity Parades

Following the ceremony, communities hold a parade featuring floats decorated with symbols of unity, such as interlocking hands, diverse flags, or peaceful wildlife scenes. Participants often dress in colorful clothing and hand out small trinkets to spectators.

Joy Feasts

Friends and families gather for communal meals, sharing dishes that either share a Bim Bim Stone motif or otherwise align with the Bim Bim theme. One popular custom involves making "Bim Bim Stone Soup", where many members of a community will each bring one ingredient to a large shared pot or cauldron, which will then be slow-simmered, sometimes along with the Bim Bim Stone. Another custom involves hiding small trinkets (typically chocolate replicas of the Bim Bim stone) inside desserts for children to find.

Prosperity Dances

In the evening, communities organize dance parties with live music; genres vary, but - let's be honest - they're usually playin' Disco or Jazz Fusion. Yow! Get down! People dance the night away around replicas of the Bim Bim Stone, hoping to attract good fortune and prosperity for the coming year.

Community Well-Wishes

As the night comes to an end, participants write their wishes on Bim Bim-themed paper crafts and pin them to a board (the 'Bim Bim Board'), usually in a prominent space of a neighborhood or town square. This way, onlookers and passersby can see the individual wishes of every member of their community every day, for as long as the Bim Bim Board stays up.

Acts of Kindness

Encouraging goodwill, participants are challenged to perform random acts of kindness throughout the day, spreading positivity within their communities.

These traditions aim to foster unity, share joy, and promote prosperity among not only those who celebrate Bim Bim Day, but the whole of the community - keeping the spirit of the Bimmelon people alive.
